I’ve put together a new datasheet about women and AI, collating study data about adoption, work, exposure to job change, attitudes, and who holds AI roles.
Broadly speaking, a similar percentage of men and women are using AI, with Pew’s February 2026 survey reporting that 47% of women and 50% of men had used an AI chatbot. However, women who use AI at work are less likely to be praised for it, and in one experiment with software engineers, the same AI-assisted work cost a woman 13% of her perceived competence rating compared to 6% for a man. DSIT’s survey found women held 20% of AI roles in responding UK organisations in 2025, down from 24% in 2020, and 41% of those organisations had no women in AI roles at all.
