Penelope.ai, based in London, is an online tool that checks whether manuscripts meet a journal’s requirements, with more than 30 checks that journals can select, mark as critical and customise the feedback for. The checks cover ethics, declarations such as conflicts of interest, data sharing and funding, the title page, abstract, article structure, figures and tables, referencing, word counts, file cleanliness and metadata. Each result is linked to the marked-up section of text it refers to, and results can appear within publishing software or in an annotated, interactive report. Penelope.ai is available to journals using Manuscript Manager, and journals using Editorial Manager or ScholarOne can join a waiting list.
