Arpi, Springer Nature’s AI tool for manuscript suitability checks

In January 2025 Springer Nature announced an AI tool, built in-house, that automates editorial quality checks and alerts editors to potentially unsuitable manuscripts so that they can be held back from peer review. It supports 14 suitability assessment steps before review, including data availability statements, human and animal ethics, clinical trials and misuse threats, and a human expert double-checks the results before any final decision. At the announcement it was being tested and verified on more than 100 open access journals, including Scientific Reports, covering more than 100,000 submissions, and Springer Nature planned to integrate it into its Snapp submission and processing platform.
