Claude Science

Claude Science is Anthropic's AI workbench for scientists, launched in beta on 30 June 2026. It pulls the fragmented tools of research — PubMed, Jupyter, R, cluster terminals, 60+ scientific databases — into one environment where a generalist coordinating agent runs multi-step research, spins up specialist sub-agents, and produces figures and manuscripts alongside the code that made them. Every output carries an auditable history (code, environment, message log) so results can be validated and reproduced, and a reviewer agent checks citations and calculations, flagging and self-correcting errors. Runs locally on macOS/Linux or over SSH/HPC so sensitive datasets never leave the lab's own systems.

Benefits & outcomes

Reproducible-by-default: figures ship with the exact code, environment and plain-language description that produced them; editable in natural language.

Manages compute — drafts a plan, asks before reaching new resources, submits jobs to the lab's HPC or Modal, scaling from one GPU to hundreds.

Domain-ready via NVIDIA's BioNeMo Agent Toolkit (Evo 2, Boltz-2, OpenFold3) for genomics, single-cell, proteomics, structural biology and cheminformatics.

Jérôme Lecoq (Allen Institute) cut long-form review writing from up to two years to ~10 reviews of 100+ pages using ~20 custom skills with actor-critic agent pairs; Stephen Francis (UCSF) ran germline glioma workups in roughly one-tenth the time, independently validated.

Notes & quotes

For Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans; discounted Team seats for academic/nonprofit labs. Anthropic backing up to 50 "AI for Science" projects with up to $30,000 in credits (plus up to $2,000 Modal compute), applications through 15 July 2026, projects running Sept–Dec 2026.

Context for the dataset: relevant to publishing as a manuscript- and review-generation engine (the Lecoq review pipeline) and as the substrate other publishing tools are built on — cf. EasyJournal (vibe-coded on Claude) and Wiley's AI Gateway (Claude at launch).
