Books By People is a UK organisation that partners with publishers to certify human-written books with a reader-facing mark, the Books By People Mark, as part of building what it calls an “Organic Literature” market. A publisher completes a questionnaire about its practices and AI policies and becomes a member, then registers titles, which receive a short review based on creation accounts, manuscript history and signature analysis. Titles that meet the standards qualify for the mark and appear on the publisher’s profile in a directory, reachable through a unique ID and QR code, and publishers can add certification status to the data they send to retailers. RightsTech reported in October 2025 that the scheme allows only limited AI use, such as for formatting or idea generation. Fees depend on annual turnover and the number of titles to certify.
