Global Campus is an online platform based in Utrecht, founded by Tijmen Altena and Paul Tuinenburg, that uses AI matchmaking to help institutions, funders and publishers find experts for peer review, vacancies and collaboration, with conflict-of-interest checks. It grew out of Impacter, a platform the founders have run since 2017 that applies natural language processing and AI to grant proposals, initially to automate feedback. Impacter’s matchmaking was first applied to the funding database of ResearchConnect and was then extended with OpenAlex data, and Global Campus launched in December 2022. According to a July 2024 blog post, investors use it to find experts for technical due diligence, researchers use it to find journals and collaborators, funders and publishers use it to find peer reviewers, and university recruiters can search for international talent through a partnership with Academic Transfer. Organisations can also connect to it through an API.
