NEJM AI article companion (beta)

NEJM Group's beta AI article companion sits alongside individual NEJM articles to help with exploration, clarification and clinical interpretation. Deliberately constrained: it draws only on the article itself, no external sources, and is framed as assistive rather than authoritative.

Since rolled out beyond the beta: NEJM says the AI Companion is now available across all journals in the NEJM Group portfolio, still with the article as the only content source.

Benefits & outcomes

Clinicians can query methods and clinical relevance without leaving the page.

Article-only scope limits unsupported inference.

A controlled experiment in AI for clinical publishing, with user feedback shaping what comes next — possibly corpus-level querying across NEJM content.

Notes & quotes

NEJM leadership stresses outputs are provisional and need reader verification.
