Cashmere

Cashmere is infrastructure between publishers and AI companies: publishers set the rules — what content can be used, how, at what price — and AI companies integrate once for legitimate access. Built on Omnipub, Cashmere's data model for presenting long-form content to AI. Supports Bring Your Own License (existing subscriptions travel into AI tools) and Metered Token Consumption (payment per use in answers), both live in the Wiley–Perplexity partnership.

Benefits & outcomes

Notes & quotes

"AI is a new distribution channel—if big tech builds it, it feels like yet another moment when publishers lose control." — Jonathan Woahn, founder, interviewed in PubTech Radar's Big Ideas series: https://pubtechradar.substack.com/p/big-ideas-in-publishing-jonathan

At PurePub.ai's "What is content now?" panel (14 May 2026), founder Jonathan Woahn framed the publisher's enduring role as three C's — curation, circulation and continuity — and argued circulation is the C most captured by AI, so publishers should monetise curation and "trusted data streams" instead. He positioned Cashmere against the "scraper economy" (crawlers reselling content they don't pay for) and called for "ethically sourced" content, analogous to ethically sourced food.
